What is Liver Cancer?

It has acknowledged by the latest researches in medical and health sciences that the cancer of liver is caused by the excessive use of alcohol and tobacco products. Smoking is one such factor that contributes to mouth and liver cancer in a metastasis way. Liver cancer can also take birth due to infections of liver, hepatitis or by birth dysfunctional livers. The diabetic people have high risk factors as they are easily caught up by the liver infections. Moreover, the people who are obese are also at the danger of developing liver cancer. At this point, one must think for a second what liver cancer is and how it affects the life of patient through the expression of symptoms before diagnosis.

One must understand at this point that liver is the second largest organ of human body. The malignancy in the liver cells is called liver cancer. This shows that the liver is also at the risk of cancer like other organs of human body. The intake of alcohol has serious threats to the health in numerous ways. Many cancers are found in the smokers and alcohol addicts. Smoking and drinking is directly related to the liver infections as the both activities hamper the normal functioning of liver. The same are the source of developing anti bodies in the liver which are seen by the immune system of the patient. The people with smoking habit have weak immune defensive systems. Hence, the liver of such person develops swellings and tumors as a result of invasion by external infectious agents. Like some other cancer types, the liver cancer patients should take steps to remove the deficiencies of immune system. So they may be able to fight against the bacteria and infections. The cure of disease is also facilitated if the immune system is working properly. The alcohol and tobacco hinder the defense mechanisms of body which increase the vulnerability to liver cancer.

In scientific terms, the liver cancer occurs when the cells in the liver develop abnormalities, grow and make malignancies like swelling. With the inflammation process of innate immune system, the formation of tumors and swellings becomes obvious for the cancer patients. Similar is the case with the liver cancer. In this form of cancer the abnormalities build up in the tissues of liver and generate two kinds of cancers: A metastasis liver cancer and primary liver cancer. The cancer which develops in the liver tissues is called as a primary liver cancer where as the secondary or metastasis cancer is said to develop when the cancer of any other body part infects the liver. To decide whether a cancer is primary or a metastasis, doctors identify the source from where the cancer basically originates. The treatment of liver cancer is also associated with the identification of body part which is the source of infection. For the diabetic people the functioning of immune system is also important. The superfluous use of sugar may weaken the immune system.

In general, the liver cells work in such a way that they split and grow systematically but when liver gets cancer, the system of cells gets up set. They do not develop and split according to the patterns that are good for health. In this way serious as well as silent tumors are built in the liver. The serious tumors are called malignant where as the non cancer tumor is called the benign cancer. The malignancy in the liver is responsible for the destruction of neighboring tissues and cells.

Innately, liver has the ability to repair its damages hence the infections of liver get cure most of the times with proper medical treatment. In the early stage of liver cancer one may not perceive any symptom of cancer but in later stages the loss of appetite may be the most important sign along with abdomen pain. Fever catches human body in cases of infections. In case of most cancer type fever is the prominent symptom. Dark urine color, weight loss and fever are other important factors.

Sometimes the symptoms or the disease of hepatitis can also lead to liver cancer if not treated medically for longer duration. Weakness of various kinds like fatigue, muscles pain and drowsiness are also observed in the liver cancer patients. In hepatitis and other liver infections one feels prickling and irritation which some times does not allow the patient to sleep. This is also evident in liver cancer.

The treatment of liver cancer also depends upon the size of the tumor, physical condition of patient, stage of cancer and age of patient. Keeping in view the sensitivity of the case, medical experts adopt treatments to cure the patients of liver cancer. Surgery is the most common treatment method used for liver tumors. If radiotherapy is needed due to the critical condition of the patient, it is also used. Moreover the chemotherapy is used in the metastasis as well as primary liver cancer treatment on the basis of severity and location of tumor. The radio therapy may generate side effects like pale complexion and irritation of skin. This is also a symptom of liver disorder but in radio therapy patient of other cancers may also depict such symptoms. Chemotherapy produces side effects in liver cancer patients like: weakness, increased openness to liver contagion, mouth sores that are also a sign of mouth cancer, hair loss and vomiting. The hair loss is observed in almost every cancer patient who receives chemotherapy.

Other treatments include: liver transplant, biotherapy, laser and micro wave treatment. In short, in all types of cancer treatments, the support and counseling of patient is highly important as it can keep alive his hope to be in this world. Like other cancer types, it has been a debate among the medical doctors that the patient of liver cancer should be or should not be told about what is liver cancer? Some argue that they must be told the reality but some are against such realistic approach. Moral support of people along with the medical treatment is important for the cancer patient to recover.
