Although most of us do not have an understanding of disease named as cancer but still it is considered as an incurable and the most dangerous disease. Indeed, cancer is a lethal disease that is caused by tumor or by the growth of uncontrollable abnormal cells in any part of the body. Some of its types are benign as are curable at the initial stage of the disease. The early diagnosis and treatment may save the cancer patient from the severe pains of cancer and may cure the patient entirely.
The human body has various forms of cells that form the very parts of body. When the normal growth stops or gets dawdling and the functioning of these cells is damaged due to the formation of abnormal growth, the cancer of various forms is assumed to have appeared. Very few cancer patients get cured altogether. But for its severe condition, medical science has not yet found any permanent cure procedure.
When a layman seeks the answer to the question that what is bone cancer? He needs some explanation that is more close to the normal language that is clear and comprehensible for him. As understanding the medical lingo is not possible for the person of non science background. So to facilitate such people, the present piece of writing attempts to provide details on what bone cancer is, in general words.
The disease of cancer can be of many types. One of its types is bone cancer which is called as bone cancer as it begins from a defect in any one bone and may spread to the other parts related to that particular bone. Bones provide the structure as well as the protection to the internal body organs like: blood, tissues, muscles and brain. With the destruction in the bones and their respective growth, the whole body functioning gets irrupted. In classifying a cancer to be a bone cancer, a number of conditions are observed. It gets started with a tumor or negative growth in any bone. It is important that the doctors identify the basic source of tumor generation that is, from where the malignancy has spread to the other parts of the body. Its significance not only lies in the naming of disease (type of cancer) that a patient is actually suffering from, but also helps in the selection of proper treatment methods. When the source of tumor lies in the bone it is regarded as a bone cancer. A bone cancer can be caused by the spread of cancer from other body parts like lungs, breast and blood. Such type of bone cancer is called metastasize.
The bone cancer when begins in one particular bone is called a primary bone cancer. Most common primary bone cancer types are the Osteosarcoma and chondrosarcoma. In Osteosarcoma, the primary cancer develops with in the growing bones mostly of young age people and in the bones of growing children. It starts with in the growing tissues of one or more bones. The bones growth of children is relatively higher than the growth of bones of aged people. So this type of primary bone cancer is found in the children.
Moreover the cancer that spreads from other body parts to the bones is not directly called as a bone cancer rather in medical lingo it is called, let’s suppose as breast cancer metastasized to bone that is a cancer that has begun from breast and has reached the central bone. Hence, in the cases of bone cancer from outside sources that are the other body parts, the cancer will not directly be associated with the bone rather it will be named with the organ from which it has originated and is spread to a particular bone.
Second type that is common in the context of malignancy in bone is of chondrosarcoma, arises in cartilage that is in the strong tissues that envelops the last parts of the joints and forms structure bones like that of ear and nose.
In both types of bone cancer, the one that is primary and the other that is caused by cancer in other body organ and has reached bones with the spread of tumor, the symptom of pain is in bones has been observed by medical sciences. The patient may have softness and swellings in the parts that carry tumors. Due to bone cancer the bones get weaker and the patient often faces breakages of bones. The normal functioning of bone and its usage gets seriously affected.
Ewing sarcoma is also a widely found bone cancer type. It has been found in the children as well as in the youngsters and is said to be affecting the superior bones in the body like the large bones of legs and arms. Sometimes it also affects the plane bones of the body like the one in the head. It has also been found that a bone cancer patient may not realize any kind of pain or fractures in bones but discovers a painless gathering of tumor inside the skin which can be observed as a heap on the skin any where on the body.
The treatment of bone cancer depends upon the type, age of tumor, size, severity and location. The medical doctors decide the treatment that is to be adopted for the patient on the basis of X ray tests of affected bone accompanied with some other test of the tumor. When the tumor develops to a critical stage the treatment becomes impossible and the aim of doctors gets fixed on keeping the patient alive. Although the first stage bone cancers are cured but in the severe cases, the patient has to suffer intolerable pains and the medical staff finds itself helpless as the last stage patients are can not restore to health.
