It is the second leading cause of cancer death in American men, behind lung cancer, accounting for 9% of cancer-related deaths in men. The American Cancer Society estimates that during 2008, about 186,000 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed in the United States. 30% of prostate cancers occur in men under 65. Approximately 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime, but only 1 man in 35 will die of it.
